style=\"flex-basis:70%\">\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>La Familia&nbsp;<\/em>(2021)<\/strong> is a five panel suite of cutouts that illustrates the five journeys of the artist&#8217;s family. From his mother\u2019s arrival to a Dallas public school; his father creating a better future for his children; his sister\u2019s army service as a way to enter college; and his teacher\u2019s story of her relationship with her hard-working mother.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea for the public work began as a proposal for a permanent monument on the intersection of Cockrell Hill Road and Jefferson Boulevard in Cockrell Hill. The artist passes through this area often and feels that the members of this community can relate to the stories of his family. These very personal stories transformed into visual cutouts and are being displayed on the windows of Oak Cliff Cultural Center. The plan for this cutout concept is to have them function as permanent sculptures on the Chalk Hill Trail in the future.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recordings made by the artist are of his mother Josefina Delgado and his sister Jackie Villipando. They provide a deeper look into transitional chapters of their lives, as well as, giving context to the artwork that was created based on the recordings. His parents are from Mexico. His father is from Nuevo Leon and his mother is from Guanajuato. He grew up in Oak Cliff and is currently a senior at Molina High School.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Josafat has always enjoyed drawing and has always had an interest creating things. His experience in the visual arts program at Greiner Middle School motivated him to pursue a high school program that would allow him to further refine his creative and artistic abilities. Architecture seemed like a good path to follow, so he decided to pursue it in high school. Josafat enrolled in the Molina Architecture Studio at Molina his freshman year, and has been in the four year program since then. The projects and the experiences in the program has encouraged him to pursue a degree in architecture and is currently applying to the University of Texas at Arlington. He is interested in learning more about design and how design is used to create and to problem solve.
